BESS Advisory, bankability & independent due diligence

Kiwa offers independent advisory and bankability services for battery and energy storage system (BESS) projects worldwide. The services include technical and financial risk assessments, review of system design and equipment selection, evaluation of commercial agreements, factory quality assurance, site inspections, and performance analysis. Special attention is given to use-case validation, manufacturing quality fire protection, warranty terms, and compliance with relevant standards. The process is designed to identify and mitigate risks, validate project feasibility, and support informed investment decision.

Our objective evaluations and detailed reports help stakeholders minimize technical risks, secure financing and optimize long-term system reliability. This is especially of interest for investors, project developers, asset owners, financial institutions, and operators involved in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects. It is also suitable for technology providers, utilities, and stakeholders seeking independent technical and financial assessment to support investment, development, or acquisition of BESS assets.

Additional BESS Services

  • Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)

Kiwa supports the customer before the issuance of the Provisional Acceptance Certificate by evaluating the proper execution of the BESS plant in accordance with the standards outlined in the EPC and BESS contract and best practices.

The scope of this service consists of an on-site and desktop evaluation of safety, performance, and longevity, helping site acceptance stay on schedule and enabling a smooth transition into commercial operations. This service identifies and addresses critical safety or performance concerns early; these findings are documented in reports that can be shared with integrators, battery suppliers, or investors.

  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

Kiwa will independently witness the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of the battery system at the Manufacturer’s facility. FAT witnessing will be carried out on a sample basis and used to release product for shipment. Pre-agreed testing criteria and pass/fail thresholds will be applied on such parameters as internal resistance, thermal imbalances, and degradation rates. Defect rates that exceed the acceptance thresholds may result in additional inspections or rejection of product as part of the agreed process to control quality.
